THE KIDS OF BEACHWOOD
Author, Mickey "Mick" Bogerman has lived in Beachwood, North Carolina all his 12-year-old life. His home is a two-bedroom apartment he shares with his Mom, Molly Bogerman, and his younger brother Finley. Mick is responsible for keeping watch over his brother while his Mom works. Mostly he tries to stay out of trouble, but mostly trouble seems to find him anyway. He has a knack for antagonizing scary creatures and girls, not necessarily in that order.
Mick's favorite subjects in school are science (slime, rockets, bugs, and rocks-- what's not to like?), gym class (running, climbing, throwing-- more stuff to like), and reading (yay Mr. Corcoran lets him read whatever he likes-- like comic books).
Speaking of comic books, Mick's favorites are X-Men, Demon Knights, Spiderman and Batman.
Finley Bogerman has lived in Beachwood, North Carolina all his (now 10!)-year-old-life. He hangs around with his brother a lot, mostly because he doesn't want to miss out on the trouble Mick gets into. He's becoming a really great swimmer and according to his brother, it's about time. Finley's known for light bulb moments of great brainpower. Plus, he has a knack for successfully communicating with scary creatures, including girls.
Paul Joseph "PJ" Williams is 12 years old and moved to Beachwood, NC when he was seven. He's had a tough time making friends in Beachwood because during the school year he's sent away to boarding school and during the summer his parents keep him busy with a bunch of lessons: violin, fencing, voice, piano, and sailing. He has a soft spot for creatures of any sort. He's also afraid of his family's lawnmower. However if you ever made this particular lawnmower's acquaintance, you might be afraid too.
Savannah Diamond "Van Demon" is 11 years old, just moved to town, and started at Beachwood Middle School. She's extremely intelligent, exceptionally pretty, a formidable athlete, and she knows a thing or two about fixing and building stuff. With these superior qualities and her know-it-all attitude, she has a knack for antagonizing Mick. It doesn't help that Finley thinks she's awesome.
Trish & Bridgett Garnet "The Twins" are both 8 years old. They live with their parents in the same apartment building as the Bogerman family. They like to dress up as princesses, even when playing outside. Trish swears she goes down the slide faster when she puts on a sparkly ball gown. Bridgett likes to wear a tiara when she plays soccer. But what the twins enjoy most is messing with Mick and Finley. If Mick and Finley had annoying little sisters, they would be named Trish and Bridgett.
John "Booger-Face" MacDougal is 12 years old and goes to Beachwood Middle School with Mick and Savannah. He is an expert at Pokemon and plays every chance he gets. If John can get someone else to do his work so he can play Pokemon, then he's had a successful day. And by the way, his nickname was not given to him because he wears boogers on his face nor was it given to him because his face looks like a booger. That's a whole other story.
THE ADULTS OF BEACHWOOD
Molly Bogerman is the single mom of Mick and Finley. She works two jobs: afternoons at the local grocery store and nights at a package distribution center to provide the best she can for her family. She has raised her boys to be respectful, independent, and caring, and she trusts them to look out for each other when she can't be there for them. She is a really good cook and can make a tasty meal out of almost anything. Mick's favorites are buttermilk pancakes and fried fish po' boys. Molly's dream is to open her own restaurant. Check out her recipes in the fan section of our website.
Uncle George is Molly Bogerman's brother. He travels a lot for his job, but stops by to visit his sister and her family at least once a month. He splurges on the Bogerman family as often as he can, always bringing household essentials and unusual gifts. Mick and Finley try to stump him with a "Want List" every month. It might take time and negotiating with unusual strangers, but Uncle George never fails to bring them something on their list.
Karl Wheetly is a fisherman and retired Navy Seal who has seen a few things in his day. He's easily recognizable because he looks like a character on a fish-stick box. When he's not scooping zombie heads out of the water or glimpsing mermaids by the light of the moon, he looks out for the Bogerman brothers. They look out for him too.
Mr. Protchensgi "Mr. Gee" is the Owner/Operator of The Eclipse Comic Emporium, a favorite hang out for Mick and his friends. He likes to tell a tale or two and knows all the history about Beechwood, including the stories most adults don't care to repeat.
Mr. Corcoran teaches English and Reading at Beechwood Community Middle School. He's from London and has an English accent, which is pretty cool when you teach English for a living. He's Mick's and Savannah's favorite teacher.
