FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Question: Where are Slug Pie Stories sold?
Answer: Printed books are available to physical book retailers, schools, and libraries through our book distributor Ingram Spark and all its affiliates. Online book retailers such as Amazon and Barnes and Noble will have our e-books and printed copies as well. Don't be discouraged if you don't see a Slug Pie Story on your local bookstore's shelf. You can have the store order them for you. Even as a small company, we have discounted distributor pricing and returns for all our retail partners.
Question: What's the next Slug Pie Story?
Answer: Mick's working on Slug Pie Story #4: How to Protect Your Neighborhood from Circus Werewolves. After that book is completed, he has lots of ideas, but he can't decide. That's why we're leaving it up to you. Be sure to submit your vote on our voting page. Once the votes are in, Mick will know what to write about next.
Question: Who draws your book covers? They're awesome.
Answer: Thanks! We think so too. The artist's name is Kat Powell. And we're so crazy about her illustrations we've given her a web page on our site all to herself.
Question: Will we ever get to meet Uncle George? He's so mysterious.
Answer: Hint, hint! Uncle George will be a big part of the story How to Protect Your Neighborhood from Circus Werewolves.
Question: Do you have audiobooks for Slug Pie Stories?
Answer: Why yes, yes we do. Mick's first book, How to Navigate Zombie Cave and Defeat Pirate Pete is now available as an audiobook. We think you'll agree our narrator Jeff Simpson did a phenomenal job. Look for it wherever digital audiobooks are sold.
Question: You get occasional flack from reviewers about Mick's grammar. What do you have to say for yourselves?
Answer: Let us start off by saying we are grateful for reviews. We really appreciate when someone spends their valuable time writing a review for our books. As far as reviewer feedback regarding grammar, we give each comment consideration. However, Mick is twelve years old and speaks like a typical non-grammarian preteen. Mick is also considerably self-centered (sorry Mick) so his perspective is a bit skewed, and since he tells his stories in first person narrative, he often puts himself first when composing a sentence. Slug Pie Stories, LLC and our editor Amy Maddox have made a deliberate, stylistic choice to keep Mick's authentic voice and not edit it into oblivion. We believe that Mick's character and his stories are enhanced through (and not distracted by) his particular use of language, and we stand by our decision.
Below (1) is an example of a passage Mick wrote from How to Navigate Zombie Cave and Defeat Pirate Pete, with his sentence structure choices intact. Followed by (2) the same passage edited for grammar. Both passages communicate the same message. We think you'll agree the first choice is more *Mick*.
(1) Me and Finley . . . we're never gonna get outta here! I'm gonna stinking drown, and I'm taking my brother down with me. All for nothing. What a way to go. Swallowed up by the cold, dark sea in a cold, dark cave.
(2) Finley and I are never going to get out of here! I am going to drown, and I am taking my brother down with me. All of this effort has been for nothing. Being swallowed by the cold, dark sea in a cold, dark cave is not the way I want to die.
Question: Why is the series named Slug Pie Stories?
Answer: Slugs are gross and cool at the same time. And who doesn't like pie? We have found both kids and kids at heart are fond of our name. Our name also communicates our philosophy about life, which is not to take ourselves too seriously.
Question: Who made up the logo for Slug Pie Stories?
Answer: Our logo was created for us by Alyssa Ostroff. Her website is www.alyssaostroff.com if you want to check out her work.
Question: Where do you get the photographs for your website?
Answer: Other than the fan art, our logo, and our cover illustrations, all the pictures on our website are either purchased or downloaded for free from www.Dreamstime.com. Some of our photographer friends place their photos there, so we like to use Dreamstime exclusively.
Question: I see you have a new imprint and a new author. Do you take submissions from other authors? Would you publish me?
Answer: First, thank you for noticing our new imprint: Mollusc Bay Books. We developed this imprint to feature longer works for more advanced middle grade readers that fall outside of the Slug Pie Stories series. Eva Blackstone is our first featured author. Our long-term goal is to mentor and publish a handful of carefully selected children's book authors with whom we already have a relationship. At the current time we are not seeking new authors and we are closed to submissions. We wish you the best on your publishing journey.
Question: Does Slug Pie Stories do author visits?
Answer: Yes! Author visits and scary story-writing workshops for both schools and libraries can be scheduled by contacting us through our e-mail address.
Question: What's next for Slug Pie Stories, LLC?
Answer: Our current authors Mick Bogerman and Eva Blackstone are busy working on their next books. Once we reach a certain threshold of book sales, our company is considering publishing a special illustrated edition of Mick Bogerman's first book: How to Navigate Zombie Cave and Defeat Pirate Pete. Or we may try crowd-funding the book if enthusiasm catches.
