Mick Bogerman is on Holiday Break and took a few moments with us to talk about Slug Pie Story #4, his new found love for all things archery, and what he's working on next.
SPS: So, Mick, your new book How to Protect Your Neighborhood from Circus Werewolves was released in September, without giving too much away for those who haven't read it yet, what did you enjoy most about writing this particular scary adventure? Mick: This book was my favorite to write so far! I got to write about kids coming together to overcome obstacles. I got to write about super, scary werewolf clowns (or is it clown werewolves?). And I got to finally write about my Uncle George's big secret. SPS: Uncle George plays a big role in this book and so does your ragtag team of friends. Was it hard to hand over a lot of the action to others instead of taking care of the monsters all on your own? Mick: Sometimes being a good friend, and an even better leader, means stepping back so others can step forward. Each of my friends is good at something and in this book they all get to show off their talents. Even my brother Finley discovered he's got fierce boomerang throwing skills. SPS: Speaking of skills, in this book, your friend PJ is an excellent archer and he tries to teach you, but you don't quite get the hang of it. Have you been practicing since? Mick: Yeah, my uncle got me a bow and set of arrows. I thought I was gonna be the next Hawkeye, but it's a lot harder than it looks. At least for me. PJ's been a big help though. Me and him have been going to Archery Attack Arrow Tag which helps me hone my aim without actually hurting anyone or anything. You can check it out here:
SPS: That looks like a lot of fun. Do you, or PJ, have any recommendations for archery equipment for those who want to move beyond PVP Archery into the real thing?
Mick: Sure. Shawn Michaels loves adventure as much as me. He's got a post on his blog about the best-rated archery equipment. You can check it out here: http://thesmartlad.com/blog/archery-equipment/#more-2936 SPS: So other than archery, what have you been working on? Mick: Right now I'm writing a short story about me and Finley and our visit to a haunted house. I'm donating it to an organiztion called KidsRead that's working with the Little St. Nick Foundation that gives stories and related activities to sick kids in the hospital. You can learn more about them here: http://littlestnick.org/who-we-are/ SPS: That sounds great Mick. The kids are sure to love it. What a great use of your time while on your holiday break. And thank you for giving us some of your time today. Mick: Any time! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
